St. Patrick’s Pre-
St.Patrick's preschool is located in the school premises and is open during school term from 9am until 12pm. Most of the children will continue their education in the infant school and it is here that the children get their first taste of what school will be like.
We cater for 20 preschool children under the ECCE Scheme and have an adult to child ratio of 1:10. We provide a snack for all which includes all healthy nutrition incorporating our healthy eating policy.
Our curriculum is Aistear, which is the new curriculum framework for children from birth to six years in Ireland. We follow the four Aistear themes and implement them in our preschool. These are Well Being, Identity and Belonging, Communicating, and Exploring and Thinking. We recognise the importance of learning through play in a child's life. By helping children take part in different types of play on their own and with others, and by providing a well resourced play environment inside and outside, we can greatly enrich the learning opportunities that play provides.
Afterschool & Homework Club Service
We provide an afterschool service daily during school term from 1.15pm until 2:30 pm and a homework club service from 2:30 until 4pm. During this time all children are provided with a healthy nutritious snack. Winding down activities are provided for the infants after their long day in school. For seniors, all homework is done for one hour with plenty of help from a teacher and childcare staff. Once homework is completed, various activities are participated in until the children go home. These include using the laptop room, active sports outdoors or indoors, arts & crafts, debates and seasonal projects.
All childcare staff are fully qualified, and Preschool Regulations 2006 are followed and implemented. The service is regularly inspected by the HSE Preschool Inspection Team. We are members of IPPA (Irish Preschool Play Association) and NCNA (National Children's Nurseries Association)
